Europol recommended StarkWare technologies to protect against quantum threats
Europol has identified StarkWare technologies as a defense against quantum attacks.
Account Abstraction and ZK-STARK will help reduce the risk of wallet hacks.
The agency highlighted these tools as effective means to counter quantum attacks on crypto assets. The ZK-STARK technology allows for transaction verification while remaining resistant to computations by future quantum computers. Account Abstraction adds an extra layer of security through key management.
StarkWare plans to complete its transition to post-quantum protection by 2027.
StarkWare company noted the mention of its technologies in the Europol report. Developers confirmed plans to ensure the security of the Starknet network. Transitioning to new encryption standards is a priority task for the project.
Quantum computers will be able to extract private keys from public data.
The development of quantum computing creates a threat of cryptocurrency theft by hacking keys. Major blockchains, such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, do not yet use post-quantum cryptography. Updating protocols and wallets may take significant time.
The integrity of the blockchains themselves is less vulnerable due to robust hash functions.
The main threat does not come from altering the transaction history, but from the compromise of personal wallets. Europol urges the industry to begin transitioning to secure algorithms in advance. Waiting for the emergence of powerful quantum machines may be too late a solution.
