Closing the Abstract Network: Fund Withdrawal Deadlines and Shutdown Reasons
Igloo has decided to shut down the Ethereum-based L2 network Abstract on December 15, 2026. The project was created as infrastructure for mass crypto applications but failed to achieve financial sustainability.
Key reasons for the shutdown include high maintenance costs, low liquidity, and weak DeFi ecosystem development. There is also limited interest from institutional investors and no clear path to profitability.
Over two years of operation, the team invested tens of millions of dollars in development. More than 144 applications were launched within the ecosystem, and partnerships with Red Bull Racing and Disney helped attract over 400,000 users.
Resources will be redirected toward developing the Pudgy Penguins ecosystem, NFT projects, and the PENGU token. This strategic decision allows focusing efforts on more promising business directions.
Asset holders must withdraw funds from the network before December 15 via the Migration Hub or official bridge. After the blockchain is disconnected, access to remaining funds in the network will be completely lost.
