CBR Explains Change in Attitude Towards Cryptocurrency

Central Bank of Russia Changes Stance on Cryptocurrency Due

The Central Bank of Russia has revised its stance on digital assets amid difficulties with international settlements post-2022. First Deputy Chairman Vladimir Chistyukhin highlighted the widespread use of cryptocurrencies even without regulation.

Investor Loss Statistics

According to regulators, 75% to 80% of crypto investors have lost money, while only 20–25% of market participants made a profit. This indicates the high riskiness of these assets and the need for certain restrictions to protect users.

Role in Investment Portfolio

Chistyukhin emphasized that cryptocurrency is not a 'golden ticket' for investment. However, it can occupy a certain share in a diversified portfolio provided precautionary measures are taken.

Transparency and Regulation

The era of uncontrolled cryptocurrency is coming to an end. Operations must become transparent to banks, tax authorities, and financial control bodies. The regulator insists on the necessity of full accounting of all transactions.

Future Prospects

In the future, cryptocurrency is planned to be used for settlements and international transfers. According to the First Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank, there will be no technical problems in carrying out such operations.
