Buterin Proposes Moving Complex Crypto Computations Outside Ethereum

Buterin Proposes Offloading Crypto Computations from Ethereum

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has proposed a new approach to network scaling by moving complex cryptographic computations off the main blockchain.

Instead of relying on traditional expansion of the EVM and precompiles, the developer recommends implementing improvement proposal EIP-8288.

Under the proposed architecture, resource-intensive operations are performed on the user side. Once calculations are complete, a STARK proof is generated and then verified on the Ethereum network.

Buterin highlighted significant progress in the speed of generating such proofs. The process has become efficient enough to run even on mobile devices like smartphones.

This approach reduces the load on network nodes by shifting computational complexity to the client side, leading to more efficient resource utilization.

The use of ZK-STARK technology opens up new possibilities for decentralized applications requiring high throughput while maintaining network security.
