Aptos Unveils MonoMove — Largest Execution Engine Update
Aptos Labs unveiled MonoMove — the largest update to the execution engine in Aptos network history. The new mechanism modernizes Move VM and aims to significantly increase performance when working with financial applications.
Internal test results on real Decibel transactions demonstrate impressive acceleration metrics for individual operations: collateral withdrawal became up to 55 times faster, storage queries — up to 40 times, perpetual market operations — up to 38 times, and order placement — up to 22 times.
Under complex loads involving orderbook trading, lending, oracle updates, and payments, throughput increased by up to 11x compared to the current virtual machine. Developers note that process optimization is not yet complete.
Security
- All Move language security rules preserved
- Additional checks added at the execution level
- New mechanisms detect verifier and virtual machine errors
Implementation plans include completing development by the end of 2026. Mainnet launch of MonoMove is expected in 2027 following community voting.
