Alibaba Invests in Linux Distribution Omarchy for Qwen Book

Alibaba Cloud has become a patron of the Omarchy fund, which develops a Linux distribution for AI agent interaction. The company commits to donating $1 million annually for three years.

In exchange for funding, Alibaba receives a local CDN, hosting, and user community in China. The distribution will be optimized out-of-the-box for Chinese Qwen AI models.

The key goal of the partnership is to create an ideal agent-based OS for the Qwen Book AI computer. The device is built on the "OS as Harness" philosophy, integrating models, operating system, applications, cloud services, and hardware.

The first version of Qwen Book will be based on ARM architecture. The system uses a continuous context engine that allows agents to understand, invoke, and remember ongoing events.

Developers emphasize that the device owner remains the main operator of the system. However, deep integration with the Alibaba ecosystem raises questions about independent data management.
